Back in My Favorite City

Chicago, June 2026! I’m still smiling when I think about this trip. Every time I visit, the city feels less like a destination and more like my home away from home. There is something about the energy, the familiar streets, the beautiful views, and the endless things to do that keeps bringing me back.

This time around, I had so much fun exploring the city at my own pace. I stayed at The Wade hotel, settled in, and gave myself the freedom to enjoy the experience without rushing from one plan to the next. Even the simple moments felt special because I was exactly where I wanted to be... Back where my 10 year old heart first fell in love. This trip brought back so many memories- many bittersweet.

This was the first time back in Chicago since my sister passed away 13 years ago. The feeling of love and hugs I felt while flying into Chicago told me she was with me in spirit and I would later realize why I cried before I landed at O'Hare.

Walks, Views, and Time by the Pier

One of my favorite parts of the trip was spending time at the pier. This was my first time there as an adult and I wish I had more time. The scenery was beautiful, and being near the water gave me a chance to slow down and take everything in. My dream of having a home off of the water felt even more real as I sat on the beach.

Chicago is a wonderful place to explore on foot. There is always something interesting to notice, from the architecture and busy streets to the peaceful spots where you can pause and enjoy nature. My walks gave me time to think, reflect, and appreciate how much I have grown.

An Experience That Taught Me About Strength

This trip also included an eye-opening experience with the BCALA. I learned more about myself, my strength, and the way I handle challenges. It was meaningful, and I know it will continue to shape how I think about my writing journey as now an Award-Winning Author.

I’ll talk more about that experience later because it deserves its own conversation. For now, I’ll simply say that it gave me a new perspective and reminded me that I am capable of more than I sometimes realize. Everything I faced as a young girl helped me prepare for that Sunday night. The adversity and injustice I've faced throughout my career came to light that night and I am PROUD of the woman I am.

Until Next Summer

My Chicago trip was filled with fun, reflection, good food, beautiful walks, and lessons I will carry with me. The city continues to hold a special place in my heart, and I’m already looking forward to returning next summer.

Until then, I’ll be holding on to the memories, the growth, and the reminder that sometimes getting away helps you reconnect with yourself. See you next summer, Chicago!
