Car Accident Story

It was a sunny day, an easy work day until 8pm that night when a driver ran a red light in the intersection- causing me to hit her vehicle. The instant shock is something I'll never forget. Even two years later I still feel the impact of steel colliding at random times of the day. I developed a severe neck sprain on my left side that prevented me from turning my neck/chin to my right shoulder for 9 months. Chronic daily headaches that cripple me beyond understanding. Sleep spells for more than 12 hours at a time. Vision loss from the concussion has me wearing glasses now and I will for the rest of my life.

A concussion that was expected to resolve within a week- turned into a year of rehabilitation. My speech became slurred, my short term memory was taking over my life and learning to balance on my own two feet again was a task I never thought I'd have to conquer. My weekly jobs were in the past a long with my love for writing stories and my love for running my company.

Friends I stood beside through their hardest times became a stranger. The months of speech therapy, occupational therapy, concussion therapy and physical therapy became my best friend. The nurses and doctors helped me became a better version of the new woman I was becoming. While, I'll never be the old me- I cry and grieve her strength and determination. I miss her dearly. My mental health was overlooked and dismissed by many because I was always the "Strong Friend".

2 years later... The short term memory loss continues along with sleep spells and headaches. Fighting to live just to be in pain isn't ideal. The saddest part of this is the person who caused my injuries isn't sorry. That's something I'll have to heal from without an apology.
